WHO IS GOD?

(The level of your knowledge of God will determine the depth of your exploit Isa 37:31)

To many Christians God is a stranger. They do not have any knowledge of the father. Like the woman at the well, she was expectant of our Lord Jesus but could not identify Him when He appeared to her. This woman was boasting about the coming of Jesus to Jesus Himself.
Heb. 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
From the scripture above;
  • We need faith to please God
  •  This faith will be strengthened by the fact that we know God exist.
  •  When we diligently seek him receive our reward
  •  Note this it is not enough to know that God exist; even the devil knows God exist, we need to seek Him and find him.
  •   It is when we draw near to God that He draws near to us – James 4:8
  •   Seek God that we find Him – Isaiah 55:6
In God’s agenda God wants us to know who He is and boast about that;

Jeremiah 9:23-24

"Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the Lord.

From the scripture above; We should know God and understanding Him. And boast about these two things and that is what He delights in.
It is not about how many demons you cast out or how many miracles you perform or your status in society. Luke 10:20-21. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
John 17:3 this is life eternal that they may know Him.
  •   If you know God it will secure your eternal life – your name will be written in the book of life.
  •   So many of us go round boasting about their Christianity but do not know God.
  •  They have the form of godliness but lack the power which comes from the true knowledge of the father.
Do you know Him?  In John 10: 2-6 & 14
2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.
14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.
  •   Here it is important as sheep we know our shepherd so that we can hear His voice and follow his leading.
  •   So that we can distinguish between our shepherd and strangers who come with flattery to corrupt us as said in Daniel 11:32
And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
When God wanted to send Moses He revealed Himself to him .Exodus 3:2-6
  •  The burning bush experience:
  •  Changed Moses’ attitude towards God; when he heard it was God he hid his face. Attitudinal change
Matthew 16:13- 20
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[a] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[b] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[c] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[d] loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
  •   The disciples had walked with God for over 2yrs but did not know Him.
  •   It took divine revelation to make known the true identity of Christ to Peter.
  •   That knowledge Peter received from the spirit made him the rock and firm foundation for the building of God’s church – They that know their God will be strong and will make exploit.
  •   He received the keys of the kingdom of heaven to bind and to loose.
  •   Your knowledge of God will establish you as a rock for God’s exploit.
  •   You will receive the keys of the kingdom to usher you into your destiny
So here I ask, who do you say God is?
By your deeds, thoughts and words how do you position God?   Who is He to you?
I am dwelling on the 3 O’s in theology:
  •   Omnipotent  - Rev 19:6
  •   Omniscient
  •   Omnipresent - Psalm 139:7–10
Omnipotent
“Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” (Revelation 19:6). Having unlimited or universal power, authority, or force; all-powerful. One having unlimited power or authority.
Ps 62:11 One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: “Power belongs to you, God,
Roman 9:19-21 Who has resisted his will, has not the potter power over the clay?
  •  I came to announce to you that if you connected to this all powerful God you will have power to excute your will

Omniscient God
Having total knowledge; knowing everything: an omniscient deity; One having total knowledge.
Heb. 4:13
Nothing in all the creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
1John 3:20…….. God is greater than our hearts and he knows everything
Omnipresent - Psalm 139:7–10).
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell [the grave], behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me” (Psalm 139:7–10).
  •  Here, God is everywhere
  • Even in the bely of the whale He was there with Jonah and could here him and answer his prayers
Isaiah 43:2 When you go through the waters I will be with you, go through the fire it will not hurt you…
Why because John 4:24. God is spirit ………..
Job 11:7 Who can fathom the mysteries of God and who can probe His limit
  •   Every mystery is hidden from man but revealed to God
  •   God is limitless

Romans 1:20
  •   God is divine
  •   He is eternal
  •   And Invisible
  •   God is Holy - Rev 4:8
The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:
“Holy, holy, holy,[a]
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!”
  •   God is Love  1John 4:8 &16
  •   These characters of God are to make in know who He is and draw near to Him
  •   Philippians 3:10 - Paul after meeting Jesus still sought to know  Him

God wants us to know who He is so in all the names given have the expression of who He is and what He does
1.      Jehovah Hoseenu – God our Maker Ps 95:6
2.      Jehovah Elshaddai-Our Sufficiency Gen. 22 :17

RECRUITMENT INTO KINGDOM UNLIMITED COMPANY

RECRUITMENT INTO KINGDOM UNLIMITED COMPANY (Matthew 9:37-40 John 4:35-45)

Warren Edward Buffett (pronounced /ˈbʌfɨt/; born August 30, 1930) is an American investor, industrialist and philanthropist. He is widely regarded as one of the most successful investors in the world. Often called the "legendary investor, Warren Buffett",[4][5] he is the primary shareholder, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.[6] He is consistently ranked among the world's wealthiest people. He was ranked as the world's wealthiest person in 2008[7] and is the third wealthiest person in the world as of 2011.[8]

Buffett is called the "Oracle of Omaha"[9] or the "Sage of Omaha"[10] and is noted for his adherence to the value investing philosophy and for his personal frugality despite his immense wealth.[11] Buffett is also a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 99 percent[12] of his fortune to philanthropic causes, primarily via the Gates Foundation. He also serves as a member of the board of trustees at Grinnell College.[13]

Buffet started very young and as a businessman. At JHS, he started selling chewing gums and coca cola and news paper to make his own money.

The amazing thing is he was a son of politician yet he started his own business very early in life.
  • The Point I want you to note hear is that if buffet could start working at that age and has become that rich.
  • Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

One would ask, but I also need to go to school work and make money?

Yes do but seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you.

It means if you are a kingdom child God will bless you in whatever you do and will always deliver you when you go into trouble.

  • Put God first in your life and everything you do
  • Do not joke with the things of God.

Romans 14:17-20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18 because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.

  • So do not let your life surround food, cars and the rest.
  • Labor not for food which perishes

Matthew 9:37-40 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

John 4:35-45

35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”

Job Description

Here God is recruiting us into his company to
  • Fish for men – Evangelism 107:2

Luke 5:10b – 11 Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
  • To lead righteous lives
  • To bear fruit that will last

John 15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
  • To shun the world and follow Him and Him alone
John 17:16 they are not of the world, even as I am not of it
Put to death your earthly nature Col3:1-5.
  • To do his will

Means and Resources to achieve the above
Devotion-
  • Bible studies Col 3:16, Joshua 1:7-8, Psalm 119:11, 2 Timothy 2:15
  • All these scriptures above encourages us to give ourselves to the studying of God’s word intensely so that we can be prosperous, successful and wise in all our dealings.
Bishop Oyedepo said you need only one vote to be in power.
Whose vote is it?
Vote yourselves into authority, power or leadership by investing into the word of God.
  • Prayer Luke 18:1
  • Thanks giving – Your gratitude will determine your altitude Phil 4:6
Church attendance Heb 10:25
  • Rejoicing Phil4:4, Romans 15:13
Wages/ Reward
  • Eternal Life
John 4:36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together
Conclusion
The Ten Virgins
Matthew 25:1-10
Note:
  • All ten were Virgins
  • Five were wise – Because they prepared in advance in waiting for the groom-extra mile.
  • Five were foolish - Because they failed to prepare in advance in waiting for the groom
You can also be wise by preparing in advance by giving yourself constantly to the study of the word of God, evangelism, prayer etc.

Luke 16:11
So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? Be diligent in whatever you do and stay faithful Amen

SEEING GROWTH IN YOUR MINISTRY

Our Lord Jesus Christ in teaching His disciples how to pray

  •        Taught them how to praise and lift the name of our father in heaven.

  •        The next thing he taught them as important on the list was Thy kingdom come and thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  •        Before he moved on to asking for our daily bread

What this should tell us is that church and growth of ministries on earth is second priority on his scale of preference. This is because church and ministerial growth are pivotal to the establishment of the kingdom of God and the Will of God being done on earth.
Church and ministerial growth ultimately fulfills the first on the scale of preference of God- Bringing glory to his name, Lifting up the name of God and total dependence on God as our father.
The scripture also says that the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is dependent on the good news reaching every corridor of the earth.
This means God indeed wants His kingdom to be established on the whole earth so that His Will, will be done on earth – hence the name of our Father lifted high on earth.
In line with the above, God really wants us as his children to take the leading role as in ensuring that the whole world come to know him and serve Him.
God has set us as kings and priest on earth Rev. 1:5-6 The purpose is to lead the earth in His stead. 2 Cor 5:20 as His ambassadors

Therefore to see growth in our churches and ministries

  •        We need to let our lights shine Matt 5:16

(Religious branding-are you projecting the image of God?) -Why should our lights shine?
Ans. We are written epistles 2 cor. 3:2

What can we do to shine as ambassadors of Christ?

  •        Love

o   In the image of God the ultimate is love because God is Love- 1cor. 13:1-9 if I speak with thousands of tongues and have no love.
o   It is love that draws people to God. Without love our ministries would see no growth.

  •        Be the type of leaders Paul preached about- 1Timothy 3:1-11

o   Are you above reproach?-Should your church probe into your lives would they see no reproach

  •        Live the virtues of God- 2 peter 1:3-9

  •        Speech Seasoned with salt Col 4:6, Eph 4:29

o   As pastors, Rev min, elder and members of the body of Christ our lives must shine so that the rest of the world who are not in the light can see the light of Christ in us.
o   Our lives should reflect the image of God for that is our Brand.

  •        Dependence on God and not our experience. Luke 5:1-11

o   Over 30 years of Peter’s fishing experience could not make him a successful person.
o   Until the time Jesus met him he was still living from hand to mouth that is why he got worried at the night he had no catch.
o   H e was in the wrong profession ( fishing for fish instead of men)

  • For you to see growth in your ministry and church you need to depend on God for,
o   Direction- Ask Him, God which way should I take
o   What exactly should I do?
o   Which message to preach at what time

  • Notice- When Peter followed the instruction of God as a fisher of men instead of fish,
o    He was able to catch 3000 people into the Kingdom within a day. Acts 2:41
o   He also became bold and could preach to a large crowd.

  •        Be a team player, encourage team work and mentoring.

o   Eg. Jesus in His ministry did not walk alone but developed 12 disciples and many others.
o   Even Jesus when he was going to pray on mountain of transfiguration went with John, James and Peter.
o   Paul did not walk alone but developed timothy, Epaphreditus, Silas and many others.
o   Peter worked with a very large team that at some point a committee had to be formed to manage the sharing of their food. Act
  • Many men of God are failing in their ministries because they are:
o    Self centered, seeking their personal gains instead of the kingdom.
o   They are not team players, thus refusing to involve or partner others on issues that require team work.
o   They refuse to mentor
  •        Prayer – Whatever you want to do take it to God (Prov. 16:3)
o   Jesus was a praying leader  – He prayed through out His ministry
o   He also interceded for his disciples Eg. Peter(the devil sought to sift  you like wheat)
o   Acts 1:1-8 before the spirit descended on the disciples there was a waiting and prayer.
o   Result- the power of God (spirit) translated their prayers into different tongues and on lookers could understand them.
I want to end by saying that seeing growth in your ministry is all about depending completely on God for everything.
Amen!!!
